I travelled up to Kinglake today to hike through the National Park and explore the landmarks of the area. Most people would know that Kinglake was almost completely destroyed by bushfires on Black Saturday in February 2009, impacting homes, farms and burning 98% of Kinglake National Park.
This view was captured from Frank Thomson Reserve on the Whittlesea-Kinglake Rd, with the setting sun casting long shadows in the foreground and providing a golden glow to the scene.
Walking through the Wambelano Block of the Kinglake National Park, the black trunks of trees are still a reminder of the massive impact of the bushfires throughout the area, however the green foliage vibrantly contrasts against the black bark. Today, the morning mist and light rain provided an eerie feel to this photograph.
These photographs capture the rainforest surrounding Wambelano Falls in the north east of Kinglake National Park.
